The Proposal!
It was a Friday afternoon, and we were headed to Waco! I was under the impression we were meeting the McMullen's for dinner to celebrate Christopher's graduation Friday night, and my parents were coming down on Saturday for the big game. Little did I know that Chris had been planning the biggest surprise of my life for quite some time, and everyone was in on it! We were just driving and talking. He was being really sweet as always, and then...out of nowhere... he told me he felt sick. He said, "I might need to pull over." I panicked."What do you mean you feel sick? Are you okay? You were fine just a minute ago. What's wrong?" (One of the reasons I panicked is because Chris never complains to me about being sick!) It seemed so odd to me, but I still didn't have a clue. So, he pulled over to get his "medicine" and when he came back to the driver seat, he had these beautifully decorated envelopes! (Here was my sign!) Now, I knew something was up! I opened my first envelope, and the clue took us to the place we met (MCC). Chris had the liberal arts building opened for us as well as the exact classroom where we took our British Literature class. He sat me down and read me the sweetest letter about the first day he met me. The second clue took us to Floyd Casey Stadium and we had the field to ourselves! It was awesome! Especially before our big win over Texas! (I just had to get that in there!) He read me my second letter about the first time he introduced me to his family and the first time he met my family. And he had someone there to take pictures! Everything was so well planned and thought out. It meant so much to me. The last clue took us to Mom Mom and Pop Pop's...a place so near and dear to our hearts. Mom Mom and Pop Pop have been married almost 60 years, and they have been a huge source of encouragement and a great inspiration to us. Six years ago, when we first began dating, they shared with us what they felt made for a successful marriage. Chris had those things painted on a plate, read me my last letter, told me that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me, and got down on one knee! It was the best moment of my life. Then, his whole family, my family, and my very best friend (who flew all the way from Georgia) came out and surprised me! It was perfect in every way! I was so excited to share all the details and take pictures, but I was informed that we had dinner reservations. I was a little disappointed, because I just wanted to enjoy the moment. I was so overwhelmed with all the surprises that I thought it was all over. Little did I know...the place we were going to eat ("The Mix") was a little gift shop. I had no idea until I walked in! There were plenty of cars, and I was told it was a new little place in Waco. I walked in and around the corner, and I was stunned! The McMullen's had planned this wonderful dinner at the cutest place ever and my sister and Chris had called all of our friends. We have the most wonderful friends and family in the entire world, and I was so blown away by their presence. I could not believe they all drove to Waco just for us! The rest of the night we just enjoyed being together, took a lot of pictures, told our story, ate a delicious dinner, devoured my Mom-to-be's amazing red velvet cupcakes, etc. When the night was finally over (I didn't want it to end), my parents had gotten me, Mere, and Savannah a hotel room to stay up and talk more! It was awesome. December 2, 2011 was one of the best nights of our entire lives. Thank You Lord!
